no 5 of 9 ALL-DAY LIFE CLASSES IN THE LONDON SKETCH CLUB IN DILKE STREET
Every class starts with a short slideshow to introduce that day’s theme and set up our community of enquiry. There are three distinct approaches present in these exciting, intense and structured thematic classes, allowing artists to explore analytical, interpretative and expressive approaches:
EACH INTERPRETATIVE DAY WILL INVOLVE A MORNING WORKING DIRECTLY FROM THE MODEL, USUALLY USING DRAWING AS OUR MEANS OF INVESTIGATION. THE AFTERNOON’S PAINTING EXERCISES WILL BE TRANSPOSED FROM THE MORNING’S STUDIES RATHER THAN FROM THE MODEL, ALLOWING A CREATIVE APPROACH TO DEVELOP. WE WILL USE DE STAEL AS A guide.
Nicolas de Stael: You never paint what you see or think you see. You paint with a thousand vibrations the blow that has struck you: how can you be struck and not cry out in anger?
THIS CLASS WILL RUN FROM 10 AM TO 4.30 PM. Easels, tables and drawing boards are here in the Studio, but you will need to bring most artists’ materials – I will send you a list of exercises and materials two weeks ahead of the course.
SIGN UP TO THIS COURSE by filling in the form below. Please state how you would like to pay – places are not confirmed until I receive your payment TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE CLASS, as I must confirm each class with the Sketch Club by then, when I become liable for the substantial fee.
So, by 22 October at the latest for this course, please either send me £95 (or £85 for each course if you are signing up for three or more) to
Jonathan Ellis, c/o Glendene, Wick Lane, DEVIZES, SN10 5DW
or, preferably pay using online banking by BACS – if you check that box below, I will send you my bank details by email.
Very many thanks
