Sunday mornings in the V&A:

For £60 for a whole afternoon or morning of proper teaching, during which you will find out you can draw so well, these are unique and informative drawing courses, which are perfect preparation for my British Museum Advanced Drawing afternoons.
We will use the unparalleled wealth of objects to draw in the Victoria & Albert Museum’s incredible collection.
You will be drawing in particular areas of the collection for each course, so you can compare notes about your drawings with other sketchers!
Using dry media, including, graphite pencils and coloured pencils, you will work from a sheet of ideas, directions and helpful quotes too. In addition, you will be given some images to find and research, so that you can look for elements in the artefacts that resonate with what you have found out about them,
At the beginning of each course, we will meet for a demonstration of possible techniques and a discussion about how the artefacts in the chosen galleries might best be drawn.
Each class runs for 3 hours, from 2 to 5pm.
‘Nature stands still in front of me so i can invent from her’ – Pierre Bonnard
On each of these unique tutored drawing courses in the V&A you will be given a sketchbook with good-quality paper and drawing materials. The carefully-designed exercises will leading to some creative approaches to drawing too and greater confidence when drawing objectively!
RECENT REVIEWS OF MY MUSEUM COURSES:
IT WAS A PERFECT BLEND OF INFORMATIVE, INSTRUCTIVE AND PRACTICAL. I COULD HAVE CARRIED ON FOR HOURS! I’M GOING TO PRACTISE THE SIX-COLOUR TONE SKETCH. IT’S SO EFFECTIVE AND IS AN EXCELLENT WAY TO VIEW THE SUBJECT REALLY CAREFULLY.
HAD A REALLY ENJOYABLE TIME YESTERDAY AND SURPRISED MYSELF WITH WHAT I COULD ACHIEVE ‘COMING OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE’! (MY HUSBAND COULDN’T BELIEVE IT WAS MY OWN WORK!)
Thank you so much for the experience. I bought the class for my dad, who used to draw a bit when we were young and I thought this course might give him something to encourage him…. I wanted to cheer him up and give him some purpose! We met him after the session yesterday and he was full of it and said how much he loved it! He isn’t normally one to get enthusiastic!! He said how inspiring and encouraging you were! Thank you so very much! What a great present!! He is now keen to continue!!
Thank you for running these groups, it was fun and inspiring.
I had forgotten what a buzz it can be putting pencil to paper so I am grateful that you have helped reignite that spark.
Thank you so much for a very enjoyable day at the museum today. I really got a lot from it. I am not that confident about my drawing, but your enthusiasm was so inspiring it just made me want to get out more with a sketch pad and draw more. If you can sit in the middle of one of the busiest museums in Europe and draw while a thousand people gawp, I am sure I could do it anywhere now.
I just wanted to say a huge thank you for such a wonderful few hours. I thoroughly enjoyed myself as well as feeling as if I learnt a lot. You are a fantastic teacher and your enthusiasm and knowledge is inspiring
You are a great teacher in the way you … genuinely believe in what others are trying to express in the best way they can and yet gently advising on ways to improve
Jonathan – just wanted to say a huge thank you for today – thoroughly enjoyed it – thought everyone was very nice and friendly – a pure joy – feel I’ve definitely learnt something but most importantly enjoyed every minute
