Travel down on Thursday 25th May, and you will be met at the airport, wined and dined in the evening,  returning on Thursday 1st June. It is significantly cheaper for you to fly on Thursdays, so we are running the course from Friday to Wednesday!

There be an absolute maximum of 11 artists on the course …

The place:

Enjoy a week of art, luxury en-suite accommodation and fine dining at La Borie Grande in the heart of rural France. Be inspired by stunning views over sunflower fields to the famous medieval village of Cordes-sur-Ciel, the Cathedral town of Albi, the Gaillac Vineyards, traditional markets and the unspoilt bastide villages of the Tarn. People return to this special place for courses time and again.

The art course:

We’ll draw and paint in oils for 6 days and the studio time is unlimited, so although we’ll start with slides and paint til 4.30 pm or so, some days will involve local cafe lunches and forays into the stunning countryside and you can paint til suppertime and beyond on our return.

An artistic escape into the French countryside, using the varied and surprising landscape immediately around the venue as starting points.

Bonnard said memorably: ‘Nature stands still in front of me, so that I can invent from her’.
Every day starts with a short slideshow/discussion to introduce that day’s theme, then some suggested drawing exercises en plein air, then back to the studio to mix palettes and paint.

“I teach a language, not just how to copy – copying is certainly a skill, but each artist needs to do something rich and rhythmic with their ability. My approach, using led exercises, ensures that both the teacher and the students are always on the edge of discovering something new. We are all in it together, for the first time. Art, like language, has a structure, a pattern, a syntax and the common strands in visual experience can be taught and learnt. It is up to the individual to use that language with the infinite variety of individual expression. This is a liberating approach: we all might not have the skills or inspiration of a great master, but everyone who really wants to draw, can begin to make a connection between their inner and outer worlds and communicate through art.”

Matisse: A new painting should be a unique thing …. the artist should call forth all of her energy, sincerity and the greatest possible modesty in order to push aside the old clichés that come so readily to hand
