ABSTRACT THOUGHT – PAINTING IN OILS – August 8th to 11th, 2016

ART is proof of our ability to think in abstract concepts. This is also what distinguishes us from other animals.

So why did Francis Bacon say ‘the problem with abstract art is that there’s never any tension in it!’?

Let’s use this four-day course in Oxfordshire to find out!

Oil paint is a natural medium for abstract painting. ‘The paint itself is also an object – it is subject to its own motivation, rules and dynamic which the artist must overcome, ignore or amplify’ wrote Ralph Steadman when discussing Rembrandt.

Tempted?

This course takes place in a well-appointed studio with chairs, easels, projector, tables and all the materials and paint you need, will be intense and encouraging, founded in research yet subject to gesture and emotion.
