#artbite 12 – Interrupting Life
When you look at people on the street standing, waiting, smoking – especially those people on their own, not talking (unknowingly secured in language, their identity badge in any place, alien or familiar) their journey appears to be at rest.
To each person, the continuum of thought makes them aware of their direction, their current crisis or delight, but we see just the figure.
The acts of drawing and then painting are uncannily well-suited to describing these very same figures, and at its best, revealing their journey.
It is remarkable that the same visual syntax that we all learn, to be able understand the place we find ourselves in, can be interrupted and added to by the artist.
