25 February 2013: dear London, on working in the studio … day 40

did some useful work on the first patterned painting (more on that later) then went to Tate Modern on the way to St Paul’s Cathedral to hear the Ladies’ College Choir sing Evensong.

Lichtenstein, despite being a show that is almost redundant to visit, as the paint is so nearly irrelevant. There are one or two surprises, usually of scale and his Rouen Cathedral paintings are lovely. I did like his mirror paintings.

A Bigger Splash: Painting after Performance, starts well with Pollock and Hockney, both with accompanying films, but it was the Matisse Snail which saved my day! I resolved to make some oil=painted papers on my return to the studio –
